When You're Feeling Down on Yourself Again

Hello, sweet friend,

A lot of times, you’ll be down on yourself. Down on yourself for your perceived lack of progress or maybe for getting caught up in the upset you’ve done so much work on and it shouldn’t still be bothering you but it is. You’ll be hard on yourself about this. Unkind. More so than you would about anyone else.

Show of hands, how many of us are enjoying that process? Nope, didn’t think so. We’re interested in feeling good and in manifesting the good but I wonder if we see how allowing upset, unkind thoughts about us and our lives is impeding our flow.

Being hard on ourselves without questioning the thoughts attracts more thoughts like that to you. More observations will come simply because you were paying attention. It’s hard to feel good when you’re being bombarded by your own head!

We’ve been conditioned to think we cannot feel better until we take some outward action on the problem. But the problem of feeling down about yourself, or being so hard on yourself, or disappointed in your progress really exists in your mind. It’s our unchecked thoughts creating the suffering.

It’s less about whether or not you can make good on whatever the story in your head is, and much more about catching the upsetting thoughts and shifting them. If you can relate, I’d love to invite you to practice with me today.

The practice is to catch ourselves in this process and say some version of, “Even if it’s true, this thing I keep harping on, I’m not gonna argue for it anymore. It’s over. It’s done. I am dropping it. Today is a new day. I’m a new me. And all is well. I am going to focus my awareness on what I enjoy, what I appreciate, what I feel glad about.” (It is even great to distract yourself with an activity if you cannot get your mind to stop spewing junk thoughts at you).

The good news is if you can do that even just a little bit, the ease you’re seeking can begin to flow. And as that happens, you’ll feel better and more inspired and things won’t seem so dire. Perhaps then the action you take will be propelled by joy (or delight or ease or fun or peace or HECK YES!!!) instead of dread or down or sad or afraid.

In every moment we can start again. We can choose again. Begin again, right now. Are you with me?! Woot! Celebrating our awesomesauce and our ability to change our minds! And if I can help you stand more fully in the light of who you truly are, perhaps a session is just the ticket ;)

XO.
